DOG BOARDING & TRAINING
NEED TO KNOW
WHAT TO BRING TO DOG TRAINING AND BOARDING
Food
- We ask that you supply the food for your dog to keep them on exactly the same diet they are used to.
- Raw feeders, we offer the same mix we feed our dogs (chicken, bone, beef organ, kelp, carrots & kale cost is $35/week). Unfortunately, we do not have space for your personal raw.
- For kibble, please overpack vs. underpack.
- If you have a dog that has trouble keeping weight on or maintaining condition, we recommend you bring a weight gain supplement. Pitbulls and Pitbull mixes tend to be particularly bad for this.
- Treats (optional, but you are welcome to bring a big bag or two of your dog’s favourite treats).
Vaccinations
- Photocopy or e-mail copies of up-to-date vaccines, including core vaccinations (DAPP) and both Rabies and Bordetella (these are a must-have for staying at the kennel).
- Flea and tick preventative should be applied just prior to sending your dog. Revolution or Advantix are good brands.
Payment
- For the balance of fees, we take cash, debit, cheque, or e-transfer at the dog’s drop-off.
HOW DOES DOG BOARD AND TRAIN WORK?
Your dog will stay at our new facility located on 16 acres in the country and will receive daily training, walks, and socialization. We are located at 7272 Gore Road in Puslinch.
ALL board and train dogs are taught healthy social interaction with dogs and people. Your dog may also be featured in one of our many videos.
Owners are also provided with a two-hour handler familiarization seminar where we teach you to properly handle your fully trained dog when you come for your pickup.

FAQs About Dog Boarding and Training
WILL MY DOG LISTEN TO ME AFTER BOARDING AND TRAINING?
When you come to pick your dog up from their boarding and training session, the trainer will spend as long as necessary to ensure you are familiar with how to handle your new and improved dog. Afterwards, you will bring your dog back for a follow-up session, preferably within a week of pickup. This way, we will ensure that not only your dog is trained but also that YOU are trained.
Will the Training Work Outside of SHIELD K9?
Our training focuses on you having success in the real world with both obedience and behaviour. We not only work with your dog at our training facility, but we also take our training into the real world. The dog boarding and training program includes multiple sessions with your dog in high-distraction environments, including parks, trails, shopping centres, busy neighbourhoods, or wherever your dog needs to go to make sure they will be reliable for you once the program is completed.
Where Does My Dog Stay?
Your dog stays at our state-of-the-art kennel facility. This facility is climate-controlled year-round, making sure your dog is always comfortable, no matter the weather. Each dog has their own separate run equipped with a bed and fresh water. Check out our kennel tour video to see exactly where your dog will stay!
What Does a Typical Dog Training and Boarding Day Look Like?
Each dog is assigned 2-3 trainers at the beginning of their program, so they learn to work with multiple handlers. Your dog will be out 4-6 times a day for training lessons with an additional three times for let-outs, bathroom breaks, and walks. The training will vary each day based on where your dog is at in the program. When your dog is not training, they can relax in their own separate kennel.
Does My Dog Interact with Other Dogs?
Your dog will not be playing or running around with other dogs during the program but will be learning healthy socialization. This involves your dog working in close proximity to other dogs and learning how to control their behaviour, whether it be over-excitement, reactivity, or aggression. The focus is on making you, as the handler, the most important thing in their life.
